What is the Zeitgeist?

Literally from the German "spirit of the times", the Zeitgeist reflects the culture, mood and ideas of a time period. Hegel argued that great historical figures do not succeed by their inherent skills or through random luck;. Instead, they are simply the right person. in the right place at the right time. They function as instruments who perfectly channel the Zeitgeist of their cultural moment, hence their success.
